A FLYING START TO 2015

12th February 15

In association with our partners, England Squash and Racketball, the Squash and Racketball Foundation, the Tower Hamlets Youth Sport Foundation and GLL, we held today the first of six inter-school junior squash competitions at the Finsbury Leisure Centre.

Three schools from two London boroughs entered teams for the competition with 15 children taking part. St Mary and St Michael (Tower Hamlets), Olga Primary School (Tower Hamlets) and Prior Weston (Islington) all enjoyed the morning, with some hard fought squash matches. One particular game finished 17-15 after a real tussle! All the results and further photos will be posted shortly.

Our thanks go to all the team, the GLL staff, to THYSF for providing mini-bus transport to and from the venue and to the Finsbury Leisure Centre for providing the courts free of charge.

PAUL FENNELL JOINS SPIRIT OF SQUASH

1st February 15

We’re very pleased to welcome Paul Fennell, formerly England Squash & Racketball’s Regional Manager, to Spirit of Squash. Paul will manage our team of coaches and our ambitious schedule of projects at schools, youth and leisure centres across London.

Paul will expand our roster of coaches and put in place mentoring and development programmes for them. There’s a raft of plans for 2015 and beyond which require careful research, new partnerships to be put in place, and then perfect execution.

Paul comments, During my time with England Squash and Racketball I worked closely with Spirit of Squash on many projects so it is now great to be on the other side of the fence directly involved in the day to day management of the team and programmes. I am very excited about the prospect of helping to build on what is already in place and introduce some new and innovative ideas to the business.

Welcome Paul and here’s to helping us succeed in giving more children across London the chance to play.
